Abstract

Gait is one of the most impaired ability in children with Cerebral Palsy (CP). CP children has impairments that lead to changes in biomechanical alignment, muscle dysfunction and consequently gait impairment. The use of Kinesiotaping ® (KT) for better biomechanical alignment, proper muscle activation is being discussed, however we did not find research publications assessing the relation of KT with changes in kinematic and kinetic patterns during gait of children with CP. Nonlinear analysis is recent strategy to evaluate the level of quality and complexity of the measures that have not being applied to the study of motor variability during gait in children with CP. Aim: Use nonlinear analysis to ground reaction forces during gait of children with Cerebral Palsy with and without the Kinesiotaping ® and placebo application. Hypothesis: The use of active form of KT in anterior tibial and medium gluteal muscles will change gait and results greater entropy value due an increased control over proximal and distal joint and, consequently, an increased regularity of related series. Methods: Fifteen children with Hemiparetic Spastic CP, GMFCS I and II will participate in this study. KT will be applied on tibial and medium gluteal muscles in an active and placebo conditions. Vertical, anteroposterior and medial lateral components of ground reaction forces will be used to analyze the postural control during gait. Approximate Entropy and Lyapunov exponent will be used as nonlinear analysis. Routines will be developed in MatLab ® environment (7.0 Version) for all variables analysis. The data will be analyzed statistically as its distribution. Will be adopted a significance level of 5% (p < 0.05). (AU)
