Abstract

The aim of this study will be to describe the population structure and reproductive biology of the fat snook, Centropomus parallelus, in the Ribeira River, through the monitoring of landings from the recreational fishing in Registro, in the southeast region of the state of Sao Paulo. Specimens will be sampled in order to I) performing analysis of C. parallelus weight-length structure, II) estimating C. parallelus capture effort by angling, III) describe the macro and microscopically gonadal development stages of C. parallelus, and IV) identify periods of reproduction of C. parallelus. As the amateur fishing have shared with the commercial fishing common characteristics with respect to their effects on C. parallelus in the study area, such as changes in population size structure, estimate the actual impact of the activity is required. Therefore, knowing the age structure and reproduction of C. parallelus in the Ribeira River can be strategic to the conservation and to grant the planning of the capture of the species by both amateur and commercial fisheries and is within this perspective that is based on this proposal.
