Abstract Most patients rehabilitated with conventional dentures feel dissatisfied due to problems with retention and stability, especially when regarding to lower prosthesis. A satisfactory option of treatment for acquiring the reestablishment function has been the use of removable dentures supported by implants (overdentures) which can be connected through different locking systems. The aims are to evaluate the effect of rehabilitation with two different locking systems (O-ring and Locator) for mandibular overdenture on the self-perception of oral health, quality of life, maximum bite force and masticatory efficiency of bimaxillary complete dentures weares, and the lower retained for only an osseointegrated implant. To assess the impact of oral health on quality of life and self-perceived oral health of these patients will be used the OHIP-Edent and GOHAI questionnaires, respectively. However, for evaluating the bite force will be used a gnathodynamometer; and masticatory efficiency, will be assessed by chewing dense condensation silicone cubes and almonds (30 cycles, 40 cycles until the patient feel ready to swallow). For interpretation of results will be carried out statistical analysis using as variables the types of rehabilitation and number of masticatory cycles. (AU) | |
