Abstract

The increase in Brazilian consumption through tax incentives from the federal government led growth in the number of vehicles in São Paulo. Such growth requires a higher production of petrochemical products, which emit many organic compounds responsible for the high level of pollutants in the air. Compounds of PAH class were found in appreciable concentrations in particulate matter collected in tunnels of São Paulo and in ambient air. The variability of the fuel matrix used in Brazil is quite diverse, which makes the identification of compounds emitted mostly by fossil fuels. The hopanes are studied mostly in sediments and oil samples and studies on atmospheric samples are few. The study of volatile organic compounds in air samples is also scarce. In this project we intend to study the atmospheric chemistry of the PAH, the nitro and oxy-PAH, hopanes and VOCs in the atmosphere surrounding the Petrochemical industry of Capuava. This work will have a pioneering role and will be of great importance in the study of air quality and the formation and emission of these compounds into the atmosphere. It will be interesting to find organic markers for burning from oil fuels such as gasoline and diesel and compounds emitted in obtaining industrial raw material. (AU)
