Abstract

The federal government project called "Computers for Inclusion", executed since 2005, focuses on the implementation of a national computer refurbishment network, whose guidelines also emphasize the digital inclusion aspect, the vocational training of young people in situations of social vulnerability and the integration with environmental policies for waste management. This study aims to use mathematical programming models as a tool for planning the reverse logistics network of this project, considering equity perspectives. The results of previous studies demonstrated the need to consider the efficiency measures concomitantly with the equity measures, so that this trade off goes better exploited in a multi-objective approach. In addition, other measures will be proposed and evaluated, since a literature on this subject is disperse regarding the ways of measuring equity in practical contexts. Thus, the objective of this project consists of a continuation of the studies carried out, in order to formalize a multiobjective approach for the developed version, besides the study of new measures of equity. For the development of this project, a research internship at the Center for Management Studies (CEG-IST) of the Instituto Superior Técnico of Lisboa is very important, since this research group is a reference in artcicles that deal with the planning of reverse logistics networks, as well as networks that need the inclusion of equity measures. From the project point of view, a partnership with a Portuguese institution can bring significant advances and help make the program viable, contributing than to public policy decisions to improve both digital inclusion and waste management.
