Abstract

Wound Healing is a process composed of three interdependent phases. The phases are inflammation, proliferation and remodeling. In each phase there are cells such as lymphocytes, leukocytes and macrophages, as well as mediators like cytokines. Additionally, antioxidants act combating free radicals present in the site of the injury scar and increasing the efficiency of the process through the stimulation of fibroblasts and collagen. The antioxidant compounds are present in many plants, including Annona crassiflora, popularly known as Araticum, that belongs to the Annonaceae family, and is widely used in folk medicine. This plant has a lot of phytochemical compounds and many biological properties reported in the literature. The presence of flavonoids, ascorbic acid and tannins, compounds already associated with the improvement of the healing process, reinforces the popular use of Araticum in the healing and boosts the realization of this study, which proposes characterization of the crude extract of the bark and the seed, analysis of the antioxidant capacity and evaluation of the healing ability in vitro.
