Abstract

The link between increased particle pollution and atmospheric processing has been proposed as one of more health relevant PM issue. Research has shown that secondary aerosol contribute significantly to atmospheric particle levels. The chemical characterization of secondary species for Brazilian environment reality is almost scarce. In this work, particle sampling from urban background and forest environment will be studied. This research will quantify the effect of anthropogenic and biogenic source in secondary aerosol, as well will identify the contribution of precursors sources. Additionally, total secondary source will be described in two ambient. Use of sensitive analytical techniques such as thermo-optical analysis for organic and elemental carbon, GC-MS for a vast array of organic compounds, ion chromatography for water-soluble ions, ICP-MS for trace and major elements, will allow a comprehensive characterization and subsequent development of profiles for import PM source.
