Abstract

The epilepsy is a neurological disease, its estimated prevalence is 0,5 to 1% in the population, about 20 to 30% of these patients were refractory to the drug treatment. Although in the literature there was no consensus about the role of oxidative stress like a cause or consequence of the disease, some studies were found association between oxidative products with clinics and metabolic parameters presents in epilepsy. The inflammatory bases of this disease have been elucidated by some studies which showed the release of pro inflammatory cytokines during epileptic seizures. The ketogenic Diet (KD) composed by high content of fat, low content of carbohydrate and adequate content of protein have been used like an adjuvant and effective treatment for seizure control. However the effective of the epilepsy were well described at the literature, in vivo and in humans it were not well known about the influence of the ketogenic diet in oxidative biomarkers and its modulation in transcriptional factors such as NF-kB e Nrf2. In addition were not known about the impact of different fatty acids on these biomarkers. The objective of this study will analyze the impact of different fatty on lipidomics and oxidative profile, and its modulation in transcriptional factors NF-kB e Nrf2 in children and adolescents under dietary treatment for epilepsy. It will be a clinical study with 6 months of follow up. The control group will receive a classical KD rich in cholesterol and saturated fatty acids, and the case group will receive a modified KD with reduction at least in 20% of saturated fatty acids, increase in 50% of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids in comparison with control group. During the follow up it will be analyze socioeconomic and clinical parameters, anthropometrics, food intake, biomarkers related with: diet adherence, oxidative stress, antioxidant capacity in both groups. These parameters it will be analyzed in three moments: baseline (T0), three months (T1) and 6 months (T2) after start the dietary treatment. The statistical analyses it will perform using the software SPSS. (AU)
