Abstract

This paper presents an assessment on recent production of compact free plan apartments, whose volume already represent a relevant portion of São Paulo´s current real state market. Between 2011 to 2015, the share of this typology in the residential releases up to 45m² had annual average growth of 35%, from 7,9% in 2011 to 35,9% in 2015. This research aims to verify the thermal and lighting performance of those compact apartments produced between 2011 and 2015 in São Paulo. The method is experimental, based on empirical surveys of thermal and light variables (air temperature, radiant temperature, relative humidity and air speed, luminance, illuminance) and on computer simulation (Energyplus and Diva) of case studies. Simulations and surveys results will be analyzed comparatively. The research will provide the following information concerning studied units: (i) an overview of the thermal and lighting performance, (II) problematics ascertain on thermal and lighting user comfort, (III) an assessment of cases under analysis, (IV) critical consideration of this typology performance, based on the case studies.
