Abstract

The project has as its subject matter two editorial collectives - the Brazilian journal Presença and the Argentine journal Pasado y Presente. Both Brazilian and Argentina groups were formed by Marxist intellectuals who had established a critical relationship, in varying degrees, with the communist parties of their countries and joined in these enterprises as a way to intervene politically in the debate established at that time. In addition, they sought to offer a space of cultural formulation for plural interpretations regarding the specific processes of interruption and return to democracy by which passed Brazil and Argentina. Both journals have resorted to Antonio Gramsci and Italian communism to formulate their visions, establishing a dialogue from this framework with the national left sides and facing generally the democratic dilemmas for political action. We seek with this research to shed light on the political thought produced by these collectives, under the hypothesis that both concerns Marxism translation attempts that presented as a starting point, in a greater extent, the thought of Gramsci. To this goal, we will seek in the context mobilized by the periodicals the specificities of the political history of their countries and the originality of their theoretical and political interventions.
