Abstract

This project will be conducted together with professor Marcelo Justus at the Institute of Economics of the University of Campinas for three years, from March 2017 to March 2018. Our overall intention is to provide specific economic discussions concerning the determinants of crimes against persons, property and trading, and inclusively address urban-rural differences of homicide rates. For this, we propose three essays: first, which evaluates the impact of economic growth on homicide and vehicle theft in OECD member countries; second, which analyzes the relationship between economic growth, socioeconomic development and homicide rates in rural Brazil, and; third, which investigates the determinants of cargo theft in the state of São Paulo.
