Abstract

The availability of a new generation of technologies for DNA and RNA sequencing allows the understanding of complex biological events. This characteristic drives the use of such techniques in biomedical research and, more recently, motivates their applications in the clinical context. The equipment used in high throughput sequencing generates large volumes of data and only the adequate use of advanced computational techniques allows the appropriate visualization and interpretation of these data sources in face of the phenotypes of interest. The main objective of this proposal is to develop and improve the algorithmic and methodological aspects of Computational Biology and Biostatistics in the context of high performance sequencing data analysis in order to facilitate the understanding of complex biological events, in particular molecular mechanisms involved in Epilepsy and Stroke.
