Abstract

The possibility of large insertion of Distributed Generation (DG) into electrical power distribution systems of the future whose main concern the various impacts, both positive and negative, that must occur in operating mode, protection and control of distribution networks. In particular from the point of view of protection, is widely discussed and stated that the protection systems as they are currently designed are not prepared to support adequately the presence of distributed generators on the network. One of the problems observed among the various negative impacts due to the presence of GD is the reduction of the reach of overcurrent functions of relays allocated to distribution substations. A viable alternative and that will be explored in this research project is the adaptive parameterization of overcurrent protection based on the change in short-circuit levels caused by the presence of DG on the network. Every modification of the insertion levels of GD, the methodology must iteratively verify and if necessary reparameterize the overcurrent protection parameters to maintain its proper reach. For the development of the project must use software like DigSilent Power Factory and Matlab for system modeling and implementation of the algorithm, respectively. Extensive testing should be performed from a literature system. (AU)
