Abstract

The aim of this study was to perform the longitudinal anthropometric three-dimensional evaluation to analyse the volumetric dimensional changes and the image superposition of the dental arches of children with unilateral and bilateral cleft lip and palate before and after primary plastic surgeries. The sample will comprise 250 digitized dental casts of children with unilateral complete cleft lip (Group 1), bilateral complete cleft lip (Group 2), unilateral cleft lip and palate (Group 3) and bilateral cleft lip and palate (Group 4). The children will be evaluated at 3 months, one year, and two years of age. The measurements of the dental arch dimensions will be executed directly on the three-dimensional image of the dental casts digitized by a laser scanner system, and the measurements will be executed through the software of the 3D stereophotogrammetry system. The linear, superficial, volumetric measurements and image superposition of the dental arches before and after surgeries will be obtained by a single examiner previously calibrated. Paired t test and Dahlberg's formula will be applied to evaluate the method error. The independent t test and ANOVA followed by Tukey test will be used to verify the alterations occurred among groups. If necessary, other statistical tests will be applied. The level of significance of 5% will be applied to consider statistically significant differences. (AU)
