Abstract

This research proposes an empiric study about artification of tattoo process and start with the question: what are the strategies and the discourses actuated by tattooists for the practice be artified? So, its objective is an understanding of the power relations add*the negotiations between the tattooists in the knowledge construction about the artification of tattoo. And the proposes are: to analyze how was materially the association between tattoo and art in the areas of production, mediation and reception; to understand how are the negotiated dimensions by tattooists in the construction of artistic value of tattoo; and, finally, to reflect how the generation, gender, race and classe diferences are reaffirmed, reiterated or questioned in the tattoo field in São Paulo. These purposes will be achieved through a participant observation in the institutions that discuss tattoo as art (conventions, workshops, events, museums, expositions, studios, sites and magazines), semi structured interviews with tattooists inserted in the artification of tattoo process in São Paulo and a bibliographic research about body modification and art.
