Abstract

The investigation of variables related to the ingestion of healthy and unhealthy foods is important given the statistical data that shows that a large part of the world and Brazilian population are overweight, including children, which indicates a public health problem. In view of the need to improve diet, the present project aims to investigate, in three studies, possible variables that control the intake of healthy and unhealthy foods in a choice situation with children between 8 and 10 years of age in the interior of the State of São Paulo. Study 1 (N = 12) will aim to test and refine the proposed method, which will be used in this and subsequent studies. Study 1 will also aim to investigate different ways of presenting a rule to see which is most effective in increasing healthy food intake; Study 2 (N = 12) will verify the effect of a children's promise on what they will ingest in the face of different situations, verifying which one has the most correspondence between the promise and eating behavior; and Study 3 (N = 12) will verify the effect of a say-do correspondence training for healthy food intake. Each child will choose and ingest the food presented in a "snack kit", which will be personalized for each one. A non-concurrent multiple baseline across-individuals design will be carried out in all three studies. The main measure of the studies will be the amount of unhealthy food ingested by each child.
