Abstract

Inventory control and distribution are essential activities in the supply chain management. Given that these activities are interrelated, they must be coordinated in the best possible way in order to perform the operations efficiently and achieve an adequate operating performance. The inventory routing problem addresses these activities in a integrated way. In spite of its complexity, this problem has gained increasing interest over the last decade in both academic and industrial settings. The objective of this project is to investigate exact, heuristic and hybrid solution methods for this problem. Furthermore, additional characteristics of the problem will be considered in order to make it as realistic as possible. It is worth mentioning that, since the problem has gained attention only in the last few years, there are few exact and hybrid methods exploring the particular structure of this problem. (AU)
