Abstract

Abdominal aortic aneurysm patients have a high cardiovascular risk and an elavated prevalence of abnormal high-sensitive troponin levels, even before vascular surgery. The physiopathology of this elevation is under debate and our study is designed to evaluate the association between this elevation and epicardial fat volume. Epicardial fat volume is elevated in the context of metabolic syndrome and is an effector in the coronary atherosclerosis process. It is our hypothesis that patients with abnormal troponin have higher epicardial fat volume. In this retrospective study, we are going to calculate epicardial fat volume from recorded preoperative thorax tomography of 137 patients already submitted to abdominal aortic aneurysm repair. (AU)
