Abstract

This project will provide new paleomagnetic data in the Edicaran-Cambrian interval for carbonates from the Araras Group (Mato Grosso State, Brazil) and recently discovered equivalent units in Rondonia State in order to test paleogeographic configurations for the Gondwana and test the hypothesis for the end of the extreme Neoproterozoic glacial events. Paleomagnetic samples were already collected in Tangara da Serra (MT) and Espigão d'Oeste (RO) comprising around 60 stratigraphic levels, and included fold tests to investigate the testability of magnetic components. The proposed research is part of a wider effort to reconstruct Earth's paleogeography and define its relation with the dramatic environmental changes (climate, atmosphere and ocean composition) that preceded the appearance of multicelular organisms.
