Abstract

The doctoral stage proposed aims to explore the theoretical and methodological issues that currently guide doctoral research at the University of São Paulo, Brazil, "Controversies and mobilizations involving evangelical groups in actions to promote citizenship in Brazil (1980-2010)." The main research focuses on the mobilization of evangelical groups in the promotion of access to social rights (education, health, security, etc.) in Brazil. The objective is to analyze how religious actors construct a social problem and implement activities to solve it. To this end, we examined modalities of action by Brazilian churches and evangelical organizations in the field of social protection, between 1980 and 2010. The activities to be developed at the Centre d'étude des mouvements sociaux (CEMS/EHESS), in Paris, such as participation in seminars and discussions in study groups and bibliographical research in the library will aim to clarify and explore the contemporary Brazilian debate on the transformations of the relationship between religion and state and the phenomenon of the translation of religious ideologies into the political language of democratic societies, such as language of human rights.
