Abstract

This project is part of a larger research project being carried out in collaboration with Frédéric Lebaron. This broader research called "Social space, inequalities and dimensions of well-being" proposes to compare urban configurations in three cities: Paris, São Paulo and Recife (submitted to ANR/FAPESP 2017). This period abroad is intended to carry out a decisive stage of this broader investigation, which is the constitution of a statistical database of Paris aiming at observing in different social conditions a same set of hypotheses. These hypotheses relate not only to the different degrees of social inequality but also to broader and more recent demographic changes, especially linked to the increase in female education, the reduction of fertility and the increase in female employment. During the period envisaged in Paris it is intended to construct and exploit these two comparable databases of São Paulo and Paris, under the guidance of Frédéric Lebaron and Julien Duval (EHESS). It is intended to advance a decisive stage of this work by systematically addressing the challenges and difficulties associated with the constitution of these databases. On the other hand, it will be the opportunity to carry out some exploratory interviews in Paris, such as those we have been doing in São Paulo, with families with children between 12 and 21 years of age, focusing on the relationship between female schooling and educational strategies.
