Abstract

This research aims to investigate the paintings David and Abishag (1879), Judith and Holofernes (1880), and Moses and Jochebed (1884), painted by the Brazilian artist Pedro Américo (1843-1905), trying to understand its relationship with biblical history painting, a genre that underwent modifications during the nineteenth century due to the impact of orientalism in visual arts. This research will be carried out considering the transference of artistic models between Europe and Rio de Janeiro, as well as the circulation of artists and objects between Europe and the Orient.
