Abstract Recent articulatory studies have shown that children with phonological disorders also have motor restrictions besides the phonological representations. The consensus of researchers is that childhood apraxia of speech have significant motor changes in speech. Nevertheless, some authors argue that these speech errors are also associated with phonological restriction. Assuming that both groups have motor and symbolic disorders that could be differentiated by a matter of degree of variability. The hypotheses are: H1: Ultrasound and acoustic measures could differentiate the clinical condition of the children, showing or revealing differences in gestural coordination among children with atypical phonological development and apraxia of speech in children; H2: Ultrasound and acoustic measures could quantify the degree of variability in speech production of children studied. The aim is to investigate the production of syllabic patterns of CCV and CV in children with phonological disorders, and apraxia of child speech, and also to describe the articulatory difference in the two groups of children. Ten children (five children with phonological disorders and five with apraxia of child speech) will record nine word syllable pairs (CCV and CV) by Articulate Assistant Advanced software. The data will be submitted to the auditory analysis, acoustic analysis and ultrasound analysis. Data from the speech errors of each group of children will be analyzed using statistical models. | |
