Abstract

This project aims to study the insertion of free workers, slaves and freedmen into educational or associative initiatives in Paraná during the period of abolition and post-abolition. It also aims to identify the relationships between this participation and the struggles for freedom and citizenship undertaken by these subjects. To do so, we intend to reflect on experiences of popular schooling that occurred during the nineteenth to twentieth century, when these workers sought instruction in public night schools. At the same time, the project seeks to understand the involvement of these subjects in the associativism for emancipation in Paraná and in post-abolition workers' associations, in which schooling was also present. We hypothesized that the involvement of these enslaved, freed or free workers with schools and associations had implications for the freedom, acquisition and expansion of citizenship in the period, as well as representing a continuity between these experiences of the end of slavery and the implementation of free labor . Thus, the objective is to focus the connections between these institutions and spaces of sociability, following the life trajectories of some of these social agents, aiming to find the meanings of their involvement in access to freedom and citizenship.
