Abstract

The sexual dimension - or gender dimension - of work has become an issue in the work's studies, especially since the 1970s, in the wake of the great feminist mobilizations of this decade. By questioning the archetypal figure of the male worker, these reflections reconceptualize categories such as work, production, reproduction, class, exploitation, among others, and propose new instruments that broke with a dual vision between "production" and "reproduction", "work" and "family". Therefore, it allowed different insights to the world of the work. This type of scholarship gains strength from a fruitful debate between the sociology of labor and feminist thought. This project aims to reconstruct the emergence and development of the concept of social sex relations in the 1980s in France. This concept rises from a collective debate held in different spaces such as congresses, working groups and seminars, and involves researchers such as Danièle Kergoat, Helena Hirata, Dominique Fouygerollas, Anne Marie-Devreux, etc. This reflection engaged Brazilian's researchers and constitutes an important reference in the debates on gender and work in Brazil. From a dialogue between different disciplinary fields such as gender studies, sociology of work and history of ideas, the projet aims to revisit those debats in a close relation with the theoretical and political context that served as basis and which gives it meaning. We will try to analyze this reflection on its diversity, demonstrating the paths followed but also those that were abandoned, the theoretical conflicts that marked its development, trying to highlight the conflict and the collective character of this reflection.
