Abstract

Chronic kidney disease is one of the major diseases affecting felines. The disease can affect all ages, but the most commonly seen is in middle aged to elderly cats. The treatments are directed to the management of the complications implied by the disease, decelerating its progression, and it is aimed at promoting quality and prolonged life of the patient. Cellular therapies were proposed in order to bring alternatives to the already recommended palliative treatments. For this study, the results will be obtained through light microscopy, electron microscopy scanning, cellular characterization, cryopreservation test and cell viability by the tripan blue method, immunocytochemistry and cellular metabolism by the MTT method. The lack of in vitro models for studies of chronic kidney disease prevent new drug testing and an in-depth study of the disease at the cellular level. The project aims to establish a new cellular model of metanephro of cats with chronic renal disease for future studies with this disease, enabling an effect of a cell culture that will give support for treating chronic kidney disease and consequently in animal welfare.
