Abstract

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is considered a public health problem. Among the forms of dialysis, hemodialysis (HD) is the most common. Patients with CKD in HD experience several biopsychosocial changes that commonly impact negatively on different dimensions of quality of life. In order to provide improvements in the care and quality of life of these patients, professionals and health managers need to have a better understanding of how patients experience disease and treatment. In this context, the instrument entitled "Patient Perceptions of Hemodialysis Scale" (PPHS), specifically in Newfoundland, Canada. The PPHS was built with the purpose of evaluating the universe that covers the patient with CKD, by means of the analysis of their experiences in relation to the adaptation to the disease and treatment, their feelings, social support, critical events, risk factors and the relationship with the health team, improve understanding of the patient's perception of life in hemodialysis treatment. Thus, this research of scientific initiation aims to adapt and validate PPHS for the Brazilian context. This is a methodological study of cultural adaptation and validation of PPHS for Brazil. The initial stages of the translation and cultural adaptation process have already been, as recommended by the literature, it was: Translation, synthesis of translations, back translation and review by a committee of judges. In this way, will continue the process of adaptation and validation of PPHS, performing the Pre-Test stage, presentation and evaluation of the reports on the process of cross-cultural adaptation of the PPHS and evaluation of the psychometric properties of PPHS, for validation of the same. For this last step, patients with CKD in HD will be interviewed individually, respecting the inclusion / exclusion criteria, after consent to participate in the study with the signing of the Informed Consent Term, applying the following instruments: sociodemographic characterization, PPHS, Mini Mental State Examination, Patient Health Questionnaire - 9 and Medical Outcomes Study 36 - Item Short-Form Health Survey. The project was approved by the Ethics Committee in Human Being Research at UFSCar, with approval number 1.710.623. (AU)
