Abstract

The cities development and population growth demands more infrastructure and buildings. In this case, cement is one of the most essential material. In the manufacturing process, CO2 is emitted due to fuel oxidation and limestone decarbonation. Cement industry releases 5 to 8% of CO2 anthropogenic in the atmosphere. Some researches and investments are necessary to mitigate the CO2 emissions in cement industries, for example, use of renewable energy and substation of clinker by supplementary material, as an alternative to capture this gas. The LME Poli USP group and INCT CEMtec team are involved in studies focused in the substitution of clinker by high content of supplementary materials, as fillers, including from limestone origin.Another alternative, that has been widely ignored, is the capture of CO2 by cementitious materials due to carbonation. For that reason, the contribution of this material for the climate changes is overestimated. This work has the objective to measure the amount of CO2 captured over time on a cement paste with different contents of filler. The results will contribute to estimate the CO2 captured by cementitious materials. (AU)
