Abstract

The emission of Greenhouse Gases (GHG) mainly by the agriculture sector is considered worrisome, thereby, it searches for animal production systems that are more efficient and have the intention of reduction of major gas (CO2, N2O and CH4) becomes very important. The present study aims to evaluate the mitigation potential of GHG emissions in Marandu-Grass intercropping with forage peanut or fertilized with nitrogen fertilizer, grazed by dairy cows. The treatments are: 1) Marandu-Grass without nitrogen source; 2) Marandu-Grass with nitrogen source (150 kg N ha-¹ year-1); and 3) Marandu-Grass intercropping with forage peanut. The system will be evaluated during 2 years under intermittent stocking and the variables evaluated at different seasons within each year. The variables are morphological characteristics of forage, greenhouse gases emissions (CO2, N2O and CH4) from excreta, fertilizer and soil, soil stocks of C and N, production and decomposition of litter and quantification of biological N2 fixation. The data will be analyzed in a completely randomized design with repeated measurements over time (years and seasons). Treatments and periods will be considered as fixed effects and year as random. It will be used the MIXED procedure of statistical software SAS and when differences were found, the Tukey Test will be applied to compare the means (P d 0.05). At the end of the research is intended to develop management recommendations that will succeed in maintaining pastures and mitigation of greenhouse gases. (AU)
