Abstract

Caring for an elderly person becomes more and more common in the day to day lives of the population. This is because of the increase in life expectancy and the consequent increase in chronic-degenerative diseases. Exercising the task of caring for a dependent elderly can generate stress and burden. Given this, assessing the needs of caregivers seems to be essential to efficiently mitigate the negative effects of caring. The Caregivers' Aspirations, Realities and Expectations Tool (C.A.R.E. Tool) was created in Canada for this purpose. The objective of this project is to subsidize the creation of an app for the C.A.R.E. Tool. For this, two steps will be done: the first one is a literature review and the second is to design and start the development of the online version of C.A.R.E. Tool. In addition, after the construction of its prototype, the instrument will be evaluated by judges and a pilot study with caregivers of elderly people will be done to verify the first evidence of validity of the instrument. This project will improve caregivers' access to their needs and to obtain information about the services that can help them in their own needs and those of their elderly relative. In the future, the implementation of an instrument of this magnitude in Brazil could contribute both socially and scientifically to improve the quality of life of the caregiver-elderly dyad.Key words: Caregiver, Elderly, CARE Tool, Needs.
