Abstract

Since the 1980s, an academic specialization in law encouraged the discussions to affirm the Law. As a consequence, doctoral degrees became a distinction, particularly in the careers of the new lawyers. This started a race towards an academic legitimation that had been historically undervalued by the tradition of bachelorism. Thus, the production of juridical doctrines, now assessed by postgraduation programs and a strong critique towards traditional law, became the responsibility of homo academicus. At the same time, as the education market expanded, new doctoral programs were created and the interests in teaching law increased. Our study aims to understand of the places where the legal elites are educated. For this purpose, Lattes and Sucupira platforms will be used as main data inputs. The main objective is to map the spaces of high juridical qualification so that the configuration of privileged agents can be analyzed. Based on an interdisciplinary approach, centered in Sociology of Education, the hypothesis focuses on the division of postgraduation programs between catholic and public universities - state or federal. In addition to discussing the disputes in the juridical field, we expect to obtain clues that will allow the identifying of wider forms of competition between State and the Catholic Church: the (re)production of groups of power, their legitimacy and the grammatical forms that circulate in the legal world.
