Abstract

In 1992 two events occurred in Brazil that to mark the history of the environmental politics: The United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, in Rio de Janeiro, and the foundation of the Brazilian Environment Ministry. This research has as objective to analyze the impact of these events on the definition or transformation of the environment in Brazilian politics during the 1990s. We seek to answer the following questions: What are actors/actions they articulated for the Environment Ministry construction? What the relation between the realization of the Rio-92 in Brazil, and this ministry? What has changed in the Environment's National Politics (law 6938/1981)? What was the course of the Brazilians environmental politics in the 1990s? We used as theoretical and methodological reference the Actor-Network Theory, by Bruno Latour and Michel Callon, and we start from the idea of "coproduction" elaborated by Sheila Jasanoff to reflect upon the interrelationship between sciences, techniques, culture and politics for composition the environmental politics.
