Abstract

Behavior Analysis arrived in Brazil in the 1960s, with the arrival of Fred Keller in the country and the first course in the area. One of its first applications was in clinics. Then expanding to institutions. Exactly 30 years later, Bernard Rangé and Hélio Guilhardi idealized and assisted in the creation of the Brazilian Association of Psychology and Behavioral Medicine (ABPMC). It is until today the largest scientific society in the country of this area. From 1996, as part of their collaboration for teaching, the Association began to publish the collection About Behavior and Cognition, a set of books that gathered the presentations made during its annual meeting. Considering the relevance of the collection for the training of future psychologists in the behavioral and cognitive areas, the importance of studying the history of an area and the primordial role of ABPMC in the history of behavioral and cognitive based therapies, it is justified to carry out a study which identifies and differentiates the different behavioral and cognitive therapies, as well as reporting on its historical course in the country. For this, a historical-conceptual study will be carried out, which will use as sources the editions of the collection About Behavior and Cognition. All volumes of the collection will be consulted searching for historical and conceptual texts on cognitive and behavioral therapies. Those will be selected for reading and formation the history of these therapies in Brazil. It is hoped that the study may contribute to the presentation of the history version reported by the authors whose works are published in the collection. (AU)
