Abstract Currently, the concern with a rapid healing of chronic wounds has become the reason for several studies involving the development of high performance wound dressings. The application of dressings that promote the effect of drugs directly at the wound site is necessary, since it allows the action of anti-inflammatories and/or analgesics more quickly and effectively. In this project, we will study the incorporation of diclofenac sodium, an anti-inflammatory that will act as model drug, in multilayer membranes of natural polymers (chitosan, alginate and silk fibroin), as well as the properties of the membranes and the mathematical modeling involved in the release kinetics of the drug. It is expected to understand the phenomenon of mass transfer and release kinetics in multilayer membranes, as well as to develop membranes suitable for use in high performance wound dressings with important social and technological function.
