Abstract

Cutaneous wounds in sheep usually heal by second intention. Healing is a physiological process that starts from loss of skin integrity. Amniotic membrane (AM) is an alternative to regenerative medicine and can be used to repair lesions. The aim of this study was to evaluate the wound healing by means of histopathological evaluation in experimental wounds treated or not with AM and compare this healing in the thoracic and pelvic limbs of sheep. It will be used six animals, all of which will suffer induced wounds in the thoracic limbs and pelvic limbs. Among the six animals, three will receive treatment with AM on the right side and the other three on the left side, being the contralateral limb the control that will receive only treatment with physiological solution, both for thoracic and pelvic limbs. Fragment collections for histopathological evaluation will be performed at three, seven and 15 days after surgery. On alternate days, dressings with an absorbent pad, bandage and cleaning of the area with physiological solution will be performed until complete healing. The evaluations will be performed by an experienced pathologist who will not know the identifications of the groups. Histological descriptive analysis will be based on the criteria of inflammation, neovascularization and healing. (AU)
