Abstract

Brazil produces approximately 1400 tons of grapes per year. The area cultivated with grapevines and the average yield per hectare have increased significantly in the last decade. In São Paulo state, cv. Niagara Rosada is the most planted, corresponding to 90% of the state's grapevine plants. Different ways of conducting the plants and cultivation practices are carried out in São Paulo viticulture. Among these, the cultivation of plants in the Y system with plastic cover has been outstanding due to its high productivity and lower incidence of diseases. However, the effects of plastic cover on grapevine rust epidemics (Phakopsora euvitis) are still poorly understood. The objectives of this project are (i) to monitor the dynamics of urediniospores of P. euvitis by using spore traps in plots with and without plastic cover and (ii) to evaluate the effect of plastic cover on the temporal dynamics of grapevine rust. For this, spore traps will be distributed in areas with and without plastic cover, at 1.8 m height from the soil. Three traps will be used in uncovered areas, and another three will be used in covered areas. The spores count on the slides will be done weekly. The temporal analysis of the progress of grapevine rust will be performed on 14 plants under plastic cover and on 14 uncovered plants, conducted in the Y system. (AU)
