Abstract

The research proposes to investigate the territory of occupations by social movements for housing in the center of São Paulo by an empirical approach, seeking to understand the aspects of fixation in the territory of the residents involved. The elements of fixation in the territory refer to the dynamics present in the daily life, taking into consideration the schools that are frequented by the children living in the occupations, the equipment related to the health that this population uses, the places destined to leisure and culture present in the region beyond relationships of solidarity established between residents and between their own occupations. The central region of São Paulo was chosen as a study area due to its history of transformation and also because it is a region where the territorial dispute is very evident, since it is a privileged region of the city, being a scenario of a conflict of interests, where one side is a huge idleness of built up assets and, at the same time, a growing real estate valuation and the other social movements fighting for decent housing and pressing public housing social policies. The process of development of the research is firstly to investigate a territorial cut that delimits the occupations by social movements by dwelling in a wider analysis of the territory, so that at the end of this process it is possible to identify a building for case study, where the details of the fastening elements in the territory.
