Abstract

The differential diagnosis between the different types of ameloblastomas and keratocysts is not easily determined, because the clinical and imaging findings may be similar, and the histopathological evaluation is fundamental. Recent research suggests that among the different types of ameloblastomas and keratocysts, there are different values of density and, therefore, differences in the physical properties of the underlying tissue, but imperceptible in the visual analysis. The analysis of the texture of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans of such lesions could help to distinguish the two pathologies and to add elements to the understanding of the pathogenesis of both. The objective of this work is to characterize the texture parameters in CBCT of ameloblastomas and keratocysts of an image archieve. The results obtained with the technique will be compared with the final histopathological diagnosis. (AU)
