Abstract

Several factors interfere with the longevity of indirect restorations: cavity preparation technique, type of indirect material and cementation technique. Objectives: to evaluate the influence of thicknesses of indirect material on fatigue resistance, load-to-failure and, failure mode of full molar CAD/CAM crowns and overlays made with different types of prosthetic materials by CAD/CAM system. Materials and methods: one hundred ninety-two (192, n = 8) human molars will receive standardized complete crown and overlay preparations, and will be restored with CAD/CAM indirect restorations. Prosthetic restorations will be milled with the following thicknesses: 0.5 mm; 1.0 mm or 1.5 mm, using four types of materials: di- (DL) and lithium disilicate (LD), zirconia (ZI) and indirect composite (CI), totalizing 12 experimental groups for each type of crown and overlay. After cementation, the crowns will be submitted to cyclic isometric loading 200 N (until 1,400 N) at a maximum of 30,000 cycles each. Surviving specimens will be axially loaded until failure. The specimens will be analyzed according to the failure mode. The groups will be compared using the life table survival analysis and T test for survival specimens. For all statistical analyses, the level of significance will be set at 95%. Post-hoc pairwise comparison will used to detect differences among groups. (AU)
