Abstract

In the last few years, there has been a rapid proliferation of a wide range of real-timevideo services and applications. These technologies flood the wireless systems with video contenton a daily basis. As a result of this sharp increase in video traffic, the prospect of errors dueto network interference and congestion rises. Incidentally, the adoption of the 5th generationof wireless systems (5G) will allow this growth to be even greater due to its high bandwidthcapacity and low latency. However, even with these improvements on the wireless technologies,a reliable and high-quality video transmission still impose several challenges, such as howto handle a large number of heterogeneous devices and meet distinct user's requirements. Toovercome these issues, this project proposes the use of Cloud, Edge, and Fog Computing, aswell as intelligent service placement to provide a scalable and dependable architecture for SmartCities. In order to that, new techniques will be proposed to collect and analyze heterogeneousdata from several network-related technologies, as well as schemes to quantify and assess thetradeoff of using each one. In addition, a multi-objective parameter metric will be defined to beused in the service placement orchestration as well as the study of the performance of all theproposed methods. (AU)
