Abstract

Studies at the molecular level involving patients who have suffered acute myocardial infarction provide a new insight into the knowledge of the clinical and pathological expression of the disease. Currently, technological advances in the platform known as proteomics allow the evaluation of systematic changes in protein expression in various biological systems and has been applied extensively to cardiovascular diseases. The cardiovascular system is in permanent contact with the blood, making this biological fluid the most used strategy for the discovery of new biomarkers. In contrast, urine, a noninvasive sample, has been poorly explored and may present as an effective alternative for the evaluation of chronic conditions, making the urine proteome a universe of new biomarkers, establishing strategies of early detection and monitoring to a therapy. Furthermore, the protein profile of urine in response to different drugs is altered, allowing an understanding of the evolution of the pathology and the pharmacokinetic effect of statins and antiplatelet agents used in the treatment of infarction. Within this scenario, the objective of the project is to evaluate the urine protein expression using different analytical approaches in order to provide new knowledge within vascular pathophysiology and acute myocardial infarction allied to different therapeutic strategies.
