Abstract

This project deals with a Kiriri indigenous group, from Muquém de São Francisco / BA, who settled in the city of Caldas/MG through a camp set up on lands belonging to the government of the state of Minas Gerais. In the last almost thirty years, the "forma acampamento" has become the effective and symbolic way of claiming land in Brazil. Researchers were able to observe that, in addition to the social movements that advocate in favor of land reform, in recent years there has been an increasing number of indigenous collectives who have also joined the "forma acampamento" to demand their original lands. However, in the case of the Kiriri indigenous group camped in Caldas / MG, the novelty is that the camp is located in an area of vacant land, far from its native land, something unusual in the recurrent indigenous encampments in the country. Unlike many indigenous peoples of the Northeast who return to the region looking for their territory of origin, these Kiriri families make the opposite move, moving to a new place in the south of Minas Gerais. In this sense, the objective of this project is to understand how the Kiriri families camped in the city of Caldas/MG, far from their home territory in the hinterland of Bahia, are seeking things like living space, dwelling, work, affection and meaning, building thus its specific territoriality. It is also intended to understand how the Kiriri and the Xucuru-Kariri group, which also came from the Bahian hinterland and are settled in the city of Caldas/MG, have been relating. (AU)
