Abstract

This research aims to understand the identity of the Landless Workers Movement (MST), by the perspective of its protagonists on Agrarian Reform Policies of the Government of the Workers Party (PT) between the years 2003-2010. Our hypothesis is that the identity of this movement is stressed since it is made up of diverse segments, though they have access to land as a major goal of its existence, has different demands on the public policies. This becomes clear when one observes the testimony of the settlers camped, militants and leaders regarding the policies of agrarian reform in the period of PT governments between 2003-2010. Among the protagonists of the MST, there is no uniform view on these policies, among the campers there are critical notices with respect to the delay in the implementation of agrarian reform and the settlers feel included in te process with some policies for the acquisition of food. With the testimony of camping, settlers, activists and leaders of São Paulo state about the policies of Agrarian Reform of the Federal Government, we intend to analyze these territorialities in tension. This will be done by comparing the statements, noting their differences according to the interviewee segment and also with government situation treated in the period, referring here to the first and second term of the Governments of the Workers Party.
