Abstract About Abelardo, reader of Augustine. Peter Abelard constantly refers to the works of Augustine, sometimes giving the impression of following them closely, at other times seeming to depart expressly from Augustine's position. We would like to see if it is possible to determine a reading key that will allow us to unify our understanding of the Abelardian approach of the bishop of Hippo's works. Our hypothesis is that, less than an explicit philosophical differentiation of Abelard concerning Augustine (derived from a supposed "Aristotelizing" tendency in Abelard), the Augustinian authorities are used in view to developing explanations of a limited character (different from what happens in the commentaries on logic), being such usage appropriate to the objects in question, such as themes of theology and ethics. In order to do so, we intend to analyze pertinent passages from the "Theology of the supreme good" and the "Ethics". (AU) | |
