Abstract

One of the main demands for the technological evolution of steel is the possibility of reducing the thickness of structures. The automotive industry aims to develop high strength steels with the purpose to increase the energy efficiency of automobiles, providing lower consumption of fossil fuels and emissions of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Lightweight steels are materials that have a high potential for application in this industry due to its high ductility derived from different mechanisms of induced plasticity (TRIP, TWIP e MBIP). These steels consist of compositions of the Fe-Mn-Al-C system, with the aluminum playing a fundamental role both in reducing the density as in the prediction of the active plasticity mechanism involved, due to the direct influence on the stacking fault energy (SFE). The objective of this work is to study the annealing temperature influence in the recrystallization of a spray-formed lightweight steel. The chemical composition will be chosen so as to guarantee the maximum level of aluminum to ensure the occurrence of the TWIP phenomenon. The recrystallized fraction will be verified from hardness curves, as well as by microstructural verification. In order to obtain a homogenous structure directly from the liquid, the steel will be produced via spray forming and subsequently cold rolled to reduce the porosity and thickness of the ingot. Different annealing temperatures will be used to verify the phenomenon of steel recrystallization.
