Does sedentary time is relational with pain and disability in patients with chronic non-specific low back pain? A cross-section study

Abstract

The low back pain (LBP) is a highly prevalent musculoskeletal condition in the world population. Due to high disability, patients spend more time on sedentary behavior (SB), including leisure time. SB is defined as activities in a sitting or reclining position, while awake, with an energy expenditure of less than 1.5 METS. In this context, the evaluation of SB in the LBP population is of great importance, providing valid data for prevalences, interventions and prognosis, objectively and subjectively. However, until now, no studies were found to investigate the influence of SB measured objectively and subjectively in patients with chronic non-specific LBP regarding pain and disability in this population. Therefore, the main of the this study is to analyze the SB in patients with non-specific LBP and its influence on pain and disability of these patients. This project will be a cross-sectional study. On the baseline will be collected anthropometric/demographic data, duration and intensity of pain, disability, fear of movement, and depression from patients. The pain and disability outcomes will be collected using the Visual Analogue Scale and the Roland -Morris/Quebec questionnaires respectively, while the SB will be measured by a triaxial accelerometer. Patients should use the accelerometer for seven consecutive days pulling out from activities such as swimming, bathing and sleeping. The associations will be examined through correlation analysis and multivariate linear regression. (AU)
