Abstract

Studies that used the procedure of reversing conditional discriminations to modify equivalence classes presented divergences: while some observed the reorganization of classes, others obtained results inconsistent with the reversals. A limitation of the area is the exclusive use of measures of accuracy to attest the classes reorganization. The choice response speed is a measure that has been shown to be sensitive to effects not detected by accuracy, besides being used to assess the relatedness degree between stimuli of equivalence classes. Thus, the present study aims to explore the response speed as a measure of equivalence classes reaorganization degree. In experiment 1, undergraduation students will be submitted to a training for the formation of equivalence classes. Participants will then be divided into two groups. The CDr group will perform a reversal training of one of the relations taught, while the control group will be subjected to a training of conditional discriminations involving new stimuli. The equivalence classes will then be tested again. Responses speed in the second test will be compared across groups to assess whether reversal training affects the relatedness degree between stimuli. In experiment 2, two groups of university students will perform a training for class formation followed by a reversal training of one of the relations taught. The StF group will be submitted to a overtraining during the class formation phase and the StR group will perform the overtraining in the reorganization phase. After 30 days, a test of maintenance of equivalence relations will be conducted. The responses speed in the reorganization tests will be compared between the groups to assess whether the amount of training produces different degrees of reorganization of the classes. In addition, it will be analyzed whether the responses speed is related to the maintenance of the classes. (AU)
