Abstract

The Indianism emerged as an important strand of national literature in 19th century. The idealization of the Indian can be considered one feature of this literary strand. However, this feature contrasts with the Imperial reality that marginalize the Brazilian native. In certain cases, the same men who dealt with daily life of indigenous policies, wrote Indianist literature too. So I selected Bernardo Guimarães as a conducting wire to the research. Bernardo Guimarães was a bachelor of Laws and a judge in Goiás' Province, where he dealt with Indians at the Court and wrote fiction with native protagonists. Considering the novelist's role in the judiciary, this project has as a method the crossing of sources from diverse origins. (AU)
