Abstract

The present research project has as its objective the recognition and critical analysis of the collection of the Museu da Casa Brasileira (MCB), represented by the MCB collection, composed of furniture and objects representative of the Brazilian house from the 17th century to the 21st century and, currently has 502 items. The importance of the MCB collection as research object will allow the unprecedented investigation of the discourse and the profound meaning of Brazilian design with the society, customs, production and culture of our country. It will also enable the understanding of the selection criteria for the formation of this collection, conservation, what transformations this collection has undergone over time and what these transformations reveal to the discipline. The effort proposed here is the critical and qualitative recognition of the elements that constitute it and of the pathways made over time by the institution that houses it in the light of the history of design and the country, are fundamental for the constitution of information that will support new scientific research on the subject, new exposure approaches, the materialization and availability to the public of these contents through digital, printed and spatial interfaces; all elements of strategic relevance for Brazilian design and society.
