Abstract

The Zika virus is an arbovirus of the genus Flavivirus, family Flaviviridae, that began to have large occurrences in the year 2015 concomitantly to cases of microcephaly reported in the northeast of Brazil. This arbovirus is difficult to diagnose due to the low or unknown knowledge of the health and the low diffusion of laboratory methods of high specificity and sensitivity in the health system. Therefore, the importance of knowing the incidence and prevalence of Zika Virus in Brazilian female population helps us to understand the causal relationship between the virus infection and microcephaly, its epidemiology and the accuracy of diagnostic methods.
